CobbLinc staff is proposing several changes to its local and commuter bus service and the Cobb Board of Commissioners wants your input. Visit linkingcobb.org before Nov 3, to review the proposed service changes and take a short survey to share your thoughts.

For the past year, Cobb Department of Transportation staff has been creating a short-term transit plan, called CobbLinc Forward, to help CobbLinc meet future transportation needs for residents, workers and business owners. These proposed updates would be implemented over a five-year horizon, but may start as early as March 2.

The recommendations in the CobbLinc Forward plan would:

• Provide Sunday service on all local bus routes
• Provide better service to more customers
• Provide major improvements to system reliability and on-time performance
• Better match service levels with transit markets

The Board of Commissioners will host a public hearing 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, so residents can provide their input on proposed service changes. The meeting will be held in the BOC Room, second floor, 100 Cherokee St., Marietta.
 

The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) will close Macedonia Road from Barrett Parkway to Hopkins Road Monday, Oct. 8, to replace the roadway’s deficient bridge over Noses Creek in Powder Springs. Drivers should follow the posted detour signs, reduce their speed and exercise caution in the area.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 24, utility relocation work will reduce Sandy Plains Road to one lane for traffic traveling in both directions between Ebenezer Road and Kinjac Drive, north of Piedmont Road. The shift is expected to remain in place no later than Sunday, Sept. 30. However, completion of this work is dependent upon favorable weather conditions.

Signage and traffic control devices will be positioned to guide motorists. Drivers are advised to take Canton Road or Holly Springs Road and should reduce their speed and exercise caution in the area.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation will hold a public information open house concerning improvements at the intersection of Old Canton Road and Holly Springs Road Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the East Cobb Senior Center (3332 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, GA 30066). Citizens are invited to learn more about the project, ask questions and provide comments. There will be no formal presentation.

Pedestrian safety improvements will be the focus of four new Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) construction projects set to begin this fall. The department plans to add sidewalks in eastern and southern parts of the county, including on Irwin, McPherson, Shallowford, and Meadows Roads.

Harrison High School (4500 Due West Road, Kennesaw) is constructing a SPLOST IV project which will add a new gym and performing arts center to its campus. Work began this May, and a temporary traffic pattern is in place to allow for arrivals to and departures from the school. A safety message from Harrison is available here. Construction is expected to continue until June 2019.

The most extensive school backups associated with the construction typically occur on school days between 7:15 and 8:20 a.m. To avoid this congestion and to help keep Harrison students safe, drivers in the area may take Old Mountain Road to Burnt Hickory Road to Acworth Due West Road. The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) will close Casteel Road from Murdock Road to Oak Lane in Marietta Thursday, May 24, to replace the substandard bridge over Piney Grove Creek (formerly known as Sewell Creek). Motorists should follow the posted detour signs, reduce their speed and exercise caution in the area.

In addition to the bridge replacement, traffic operation improvements will be made to improve flow through the intersection of Casteel Road, Bill Murdock Road and Oak Lane.

This portion of Casteel Road is scheduled to reopen to traffic July 31.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) will close Piedmont Road between Canton Road and Morgan Road in Marietta beginning at 4 a.m. on June 8, 2018, for replacement of the railroad crossing just east of Piedmont Drive. There will be no access across the railroad during the closure. CCDOT estimates that Piedmont Road will be reopened no later than noon on June 9.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation will hold a public information open house concerning improvements at the intersection of Dallas Highway and Lost Mountain Road/Mars Hill Road Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Cobb Senior Center (Oak Hall, 4915 Dallas Highway, Powder Springs, GA 30127). Citizens are invited to learn more about the project, ask questions and provide comments. There will be no formal presentation.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 12, the two westbound lanes of Cumberland Boulevard will shift down to a single westbound lane starting at the intersection with Cumberland Parkway and continuing across the bridge over I-285. This shift will be in place for several weeks as work continues to widen Cumberland Boulevard from two lanes to three lanes in the westbound direction and to add left turn lane improvements at Cumberland Boulevard’s intersections with Cumberland Parkway, the Cumberland Mall entrance and Akers Mill Road. Signage and traffic control devices will be in place. Motorists should reduce their speed and exercise caution in the area.

Construction for the project is expected to be completed in October 2018.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation (CCDOT) will host an open house regarding the draft of the county’s Greenways and Trails Master Plan Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cobb County Civic Center (548 S. Marietta Pkwy SE, Marietta, GA 30060). Citizens are invited to review and discuss the plan and provide comments.

Cobb County is home to an extensive network of nearly 50 miles of greenways and trails that provide opportunities for recreation and travel, and connect people to parks, shopping, offices and schools. CCDOT initiated the Greenways and Trails Master Plan process to determine priority corridors for new greenways and trails and to provide recommendations for improving the existing network to make trails more accessible.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation will hold a public information open house concerning improvements on New Macland Road Wednesday, March 21, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. in McEachern High School’s Russell Hall (2400 New Macland Road, Powder Springs, 30127). Citizens are invited to learn more about the project, ask questions and provide comments. There will be no formal presentation.

CobbLinc staff is proposing changes to the current Cumberland circulator routes and wants to hear your input and opinions at the upcoming public hearing 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 27. It will be held in the BOC Room on the second floor of 100 Cherokee St., Marietta. This public hearing is accessible by using the CobbLinc transit system via routes 15, 40 and 45. If you cannot attend the hearing and want to provide comments, you may:

The Paces Ferry Road improvements project (X2318) will add a left turn lane from Paces Ferry Road to New Paces Ferry Road to relieve traffic congestion at Paces Mill and Paces Ferry Roads. Left turns from Paces Mill onto Paces Ferry will be restricted; left turns will be accommodated at New Paces Ferry instead. Additionally, sidewalks will be added along Paces Ferry Road near Overlook Parkway and along New Paces Ferry Road toward Tanglewood Drive. Other minor improvements will be made. The project is in design and right-of-way acquisition. Construction is expected to begin in early 2019.
